In 2020, as Corona hit, I started to walk the Danish Pilgrimage that took me along the Gendarme Path, 84 km of hiking through some of the most beautiful nature in Denmark.
After the reunion in 1920 the border and the shipping routes were controlled by the border gendarme. Patrolling was done by foot along the coast, and each gendarme had a particular area under his jurisdiction.
I started in Fynshav and walked to the German border close to Padborg, mostly following the coastline and walking through a very diverse landscape with forests, bogs and meadows in the historical landscape.
