After a couple of days in Nimes, we drove to Uzes and Arles.
Uze is a beautiful small town with an historic centre, a large square, which I am sure is packed during summer, a cathedral and a palace. The town attracts many visitors due to its proximity to Pont du Gard, the most famous stretch of a Roman aqueduct, built in the first century AD, to supply water to the city of Nîmes, 50 kilometres away. We drove past Pont du Gard on the way to Arles, but decided not to stop as we have seen it on an earlier visit.
Arles is a Roman town along the banks of the Rhône. It has many Roman buildings, including an amphitheater and La Roquette district where many live in long rows of town houses, many run down, but many being restored. There is also a large cultural park area on the outskirts of the town, Parc des Ateliers.
